Getting A Better Bead on the Caller: The Electronic PeepHole Viewer
I'm a grandmother myself and experience some mild frustration and embarrassment when I have occasional gaps in memory or feelings of vulnerability. It is a total thrill for me to find that someone (elves?) is busily inventing supports to my continuing to live a long, healthy, happy and safe life in my own home. I have come across a wonderful electronic aid to enhance my feelings of security that I would like to review today.
Scoping that Stranger at My Door I have always been a little on the shy and anxious side when strangers come calling. I like people, but I don't trust everyone who rings my doorbell, and just the doorbell's ding-dong can shoot up my anxiety level, particularly if I'm home alone. With some slight vision issues I have found it difficult to eyeball a caller's face clearly enough through the conventional peephole. At night it is more difficult to see, even with a porch light on. So, you can imagine how excited I was to run across the Electronic PeepHole Viewer by Brinno.
Here is a collection of positive comments users of the PeepHole Viewer have shared:
- very easy to install-- didn't need to call in an electrician or be a handyman-sort
- uses an LCD panel to turn the person at the door into a magnified, in-colour image without alerting them to the viewer
- night-time use is enhanced by using bright porch lighting
- you can zoom in to see facial details, up to 25 yards away
- uses 2 AA batteries and shuts off to conserve battery power
- no fuss about seeing without your 'glasses getting in the way'
- can set for wide angle viewing (like a digital camera)
- can use it just to get a look-see at the area around your door whether someone is calling or not
Certainly worth considering in these times of "home invasions" and not knowing your neighbors as well as you might have in the old days. Any 'gadget' that combines security, clarity, and convenience is a sure-go for this granny!

yes, sometimes the passive route is safer as well... and maybe even kinder lol (having been someone who went door to door and having been told to bug off in much ruder language). Glad you found this useful. I'm planning to highlight something everyday that will take some of the sting out of growing older-- new technologies, new enriching longevity information, personal experiences on the boomer train lol.
sounds like it is better than the old fashioned former ones
hi ed... i think you're right :-) ~Cynthia

I didn't know these existed, thanks for the info. We have a lot of people canvassing in our neighborhood, or trying to pass out petitions and religious pamphlets every weekend. Sometimes it's easier to just ignore people than to open the door and tell them to bug off.
